The Fashion / Beauty reflector kit is designed for ‘high-key’ style photography. High key style photographs tend to focus on lighter tones using subjects that are more illuminated and have higher contrasting shadows. High key images are normally achieved by overexposing the photograph or flooding the image with light creating an enchanting, almost angelic effect.

A ‘high key’ portrait setup would normally involve a light coloured background with the model wearing bright coloured or lighter toned clothing. High key photographs can often be quite challenging to accomplish as they require a lot of lighting control because the photographer can easily risk overexposing their images and losing any or all detail.

Fashion / Beauty Kit Photo Setup
For this high key style fashion / beauty shot a four head setup has been used including a main light, a fill light, a hair light and a background light. On the main light (which was suspended an a boom arm above the models head) a 500Ws head with a Softlite reflector and the Grid Diffuser was used. This was used to create a direct pool of light aimed at the models face surrounded by a ring of soft diffused light.
For the fill light a High Performance reflector has been used on a 250Ws head to blast the model with light without overexposing the picture or losing any detail; for instance the sequins on the models top. A High Performance
reflector has also been used on the background light (which was a 500Ws head) to flood the background; once again without losing too much detail as the background which was used was a patterned material cloth background.
The fourth flash head that was used in creating the above image was a 250Ws head with a snoot and was placed directly behind the models head to highlight the hair and produce a kind of angelic effect. The final accessory that
was also used was an 80cm Reflector Disc which was placed in front of the model with the silver side up to reflect light on to the front of the model to give a slightly brighter look to the image.


High Performance Reflector This reflector is great for lighting large groups or bouncing light off walls or high ceilings. It has a diameter of 32cm (13”) and achieves the maximum amount of light output possible; the parabolic delivers a narrow, bright beam of light which can create intense shadows and high contrasts. An absolute must where lots of light is required. BW1878	75º Softlite Reflector This 38cm (15”) matt-finished reflector is supplied with a double diffuser cap that covers the flash tube and modelling lamp for added softness. The softest of Bowens’ direct reflectors, it is perfect for portraiture, beauty and small product photography. The diffuser cap can be removed making it an excellent large direct reflector. BW1899	Grid Diffuser This accessory to the 75º Softlite reflector creates a unique lighting effect by including a perspex outer diffuser with a honeycomb grid in the centre. The Grid Diffuser gives a direct pool of light in the centre, surrounded by soft diffused light making it ideal for portrait shots. BW1866

		80cm Reflector Disc The 80cm reflector disc collapses down to 1/3 its size for easy storage and features both a gold and a silver side (for lighter tones). BW3225
15º Snoot For creating a simple spot effect. Can also be used as a hairlight without spilling onto the face or background. BW1888
